Saddle Up Scholars Jennie Towner and Win Lewis were lucky to attend a meet and greet with author, polo player, and Work To Ride alum, Kareem Rosser at Charm City Books in historic Pigtown, Baltimore. Philadelphia native Kareem was visiting Baltimore for the Preakness Stakes, and he spoke to us about his memoir Crossing the Line in which he recounts his experience discovering horses through the riding outreach program Work To Ride. Kareem was able to share how the work ethic and confidence he gained through riding helped him with his scholarship and academic goals. Stories like Kareem’s are part of the inspiration for founding Saddle Up Scholars, and we were excited to hear his enthusiasm for our program. We look forward to having Kareem involved with our students as the school year begins, and hopefully take a group to attend the Philadelphia Polo Classic in September where they can watch him and other Work To Ride players on the field!
